Aquino is a joke – Bayan
President Aquino has reduced the issue of term extension to two things – ensuring the continuity of his so-called reforms and avoiding the pitfalls of a lame-duck presidency for the remaining period of his term. But the issue is far far greater than what the President’s myopic mindset can comprehend.
The issue here, Mr. President, is whether you want to continue holding on to power beyond the mandate given to you by the Constitution and our people. The issue here, Mr. President, is whose footsteps do you want to follow – Corazon Aquino’s or Ferdinand Marcos’?
It is not only the political opposition or his critics who want Pres. Aquino to step down in 2016. All freedom loving Filipinos, especially those who suffered and struggled against the 14-year Marcos dictatorship, want him out when his term ends on June 30, 2016.
If the President and his handlers cannot understand this, if they insist on treating the matter of succession as child’s play or a matter of satisfying Mr. Aquino’s bloated ego or assuaging his paranoid fears of yet another destabilization plot, then indeed, what little, token democracy we have now becomes endangered.
The President’s wishy-washy, half-serious, half-joking manner of treating the serious question of succession makes us realize that the President has now become the biggest joke in town. Unfortunately, the joke’s on all of us.#
